Objectives of the Course The aim of this elective course is to help the 4th grade students of the Faculty of Medicine to get to know the surgical sciences more closely and the knowledge and skills they have acquired in the General Surgery internship within the scope of UÇEP, with the knowledge and skills they will gain in a different surgical branch (Thoracic Surgery, Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery or Anesthesia and Reanimation) they may be interested in to allow them to increase.

Course Learning Outcomes: Upon the successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

1 General Surgery • To be familiar with the anatomy of surgical areas • Explain the symptoms and physical findings of patients with surgical disease, • Analyze the signs and symptoms in a patient. • To summarize the principles of managing surgical patients (acute abdomen, hemodynamic instability, hemorrhages, etc.)
2 Thoracic Surgery • Learns the basic principles of chest tube insertion • Management of thoracic trauma patients. • Distinguish the main thoracic surgical pathologies and know their treatments. • Describes the radiological findings of major thoracic surgical pathologies.
3 Anesthesiology and Reanimation • Defines the management and stages of general anesthesia as a basis, and lists general anesthesia, • Defines regional anesthesia management, • Describes local anesthesia mechanisms and lists local anesthetics, • Lists basic and advanced monitoring techniques used in anesthesia and intensive care. Analysis of arterial blood gases and acid-base status
4 Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery • Describes the basic approach to burns and frostbite injuries. • Learns the principles of wound healing. • Defines the approach to the evaluation of craniofacial disorders, cleft lip and palate. • Learns basic breast reconstruction methods • Learns the basic approach for hand and lower extremity injuries • Learns the basic approach to maxillofacial traumas • Learning the treatment of malignant melanoma and non-melanoma skin tumors
