Course Learning Outcomes: Upon the successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

1 Define the general properties of blood
2 Describe the steps of hematopoiesis and explain the structural properties of cells in each stage
3 Describe the functions of erythrocytes, leukocytes and platelets, and explain their roles in maintaining homeostasis
4 Describe the biochemical and structural components of blood and plasma and their physiological significance.
5 Explain the structure, development, and histological features of lymphatic organs.
6 Prepare and interpret a peripheral blood smear to identify and analyze blood cell morphology.
7 Explain the structure and function of the immune system, and describe how its components interact in immune responses.
8 Describe the metabolism and related disorders of oxygen-binding proteins.
9 Discuss the pathophysiological mechanisms, diagnostic approach, and classification of anemias, and correlate clinical findings with underlying causes.
10 Explain the current approaches for the treatment of genetic diseases
