Objectives of the Course the aim of the course is to examine the modernization of Ottoman Empire and Turkey. In this course, modernization in Europe and its reflections on the Ottoman Empire, the French Revolution, the declaration of independence of the USA, Industrial Revolution and the political, social and economic transformations brought by them will be examined. The main objective of the course is to introduce the different characteristics of Turkish revolution with the international dynamics of political and social revolutions.
Course Content Ottoman and Turkish modernization, the birth of capitalism and industrialization in Europe, imperialism and its effects on the Ottoman Empire, nationalism and nation-states, causes of the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, the 1908 Revolution,The First World War, the struggle for independence and the establishment of a new state, Ataturk’s principles and revolutions are the main topics of this course.
