About Programme

Biophysics is a scientific field that studies biological processes using the concepts, principles, and methods of physics. To understand the structure and function of complex biological systems a multidisciplinary approach is required. Biophysics is a field where scientists from life sciences and quantitative sciences of physics, mathematics, chemistry and engineering address scientific questions. Due to its interdisciplinary nature, students with an undergraduate degree in many fields, including physics, chemistry, biology, engineering and medicine can be trained in biophysics. Biophysicists are expected to have a basic background in medical sciences such as anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry, as well as in fields such as mathematics, physics, biology, and computers, and they must acquire sufficient knowledge in these fields during their education.

Especially in recent years, developments in the field of science and technology have highlighted the need for an interdisciplinary approach and many countries have intensified their investments to train manpower in these fields. In our country, the number of scientists and faculty members in the field of biophysics is quite limited. Our graduate program aims to fill this gap and train biophysicists for academia as well as other career options.
